Amy Fowler running for Second Term on Orange County Board of County Commissioners

Orange County, NC —

Amy Fowler has announced her candidacy for re-election to the Orange County Board of County Commissioners At-Large seat, representing both Districts 1 & 2. Fowler has served 3 years on the Orange County Commissioners and is seeking a 2nd term to continue her work with a focus on public schools, climate action, and mental health.

Fowler has worked as a Pediatrician at Chapel Hill Children's Clinic for 16 years. She earned her undergraduate degree in engineering from Duke University and her medical degree, residency  and MPH at UNC. Fowler served on the Chapel Hill Carrboro City Schools Board of Education for 3 years before being elected to the At-Large Commissioner seat in 2020.

Since taking office on the County Commissioners, Fowler has played a key role in improving the process by which the county funds public school operations. Fowler is also excited about the board’s new integrated County Climate Action plan. Her work as a pediatrician and her experience as the mother of an Autistic son has made her uniquely qualified to serve on the Orange County Behavioral task force and on the Board of Directors of Alliance Health.

After an impactful first term Fowler has more to contribute. “There is still work to be done to build upon our accomplishments of the last three years. I am committed to the goal of maintaining a healthy, welcoming, vibrant community that serves the needs of all the citizens of Orange County.”

In her next term, Fowler will continue to support coordinated planning to fund school and county capital needs. Dr. Fowler intends to continue her advocacy for mental health and the resources that nurture it for the entire community, including affordable housing, parks and recreation. Fowler most looks forward to working with her fellow commissioners to complete a new strategic plan to address Orange County’s most pressing needs.

“Amy Fowler has a combination of professional and personal experience that makes her a great asset to the Board of County Commissioners”, said Board of County Commissioners Chair Jamezetta Bedford. “She possesses a high level of integrity and is tireless in working for the best interests of the citizens of Orange County. She has my full support”.
